The Olympic Stadium, an icon of Dutch sport, is a place of inspiration for many. The Olympic Stadium will be – like in 2014 – host location of ‘De Coolste Baan van Nederland.
The Stadium
It was built for the 1928 Olympic Games, which were hosted by Amsterdam. The Olympics of 1928 were special; the Olympic flame was lit for the first time and women were allowed to participate in an athletics competition. The Olympic Stadium was also home to the city’s leading football club, AFC Ajax, for many years.
Threatened with demolition in the 1980s, the Stadium was saved when it was declared a national monument. It is now the location for great events,for example the successful European Atletic Championships last year and ‘De Coolste Baan van Nederland’ in 2018.
